Metro South would like to consult on the development of their Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Closing the Gap Plan 2018-2020. This stage of the consultation includes 17 short questions and will take no longer than 10 minutes to complete.

Why we need a specific Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander plan?

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples continue to be the most marginalised, disadvantaged and vulnerable groups in our communities.
  • In Metro South the life expectancy for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people on average, is 8.1 years less than non-indigenous people.
  • There is significantly higher prevalence of diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, mental health and suicide, some cancers, and a range of communicable disease; and
  • We are not on track to close the gap in life expectancy by 2033.

Why We Are Consulting

Metro South is responsible for implementing appropriate plans and strategies to address the above issues and are guided by overarching policy and strategic directions. The intention for our plan is to be holistic and a long-term approach which outlines sustainable actions over time. Metro South is committed to work in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, staff, carers, advocates and other key stakeholders to make necessary changes within the following five priorities from our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Framework”:
